Engineering Energy Always a Challenge 4 LC Bucharest November 24th - December 1st 2013 Bucharest, Romania Text: Daniel Barbu and Ioana Botan, LC Bucharest Photographs: Ana-Maria Mironica, LC Bucharest Energy Always a Challenge IV started with three key elements: tradition, an idea and a dedicated team. That proved out to be a recipe for success! The LC Bucharest team have had quite a warm-up before the International Workshop with the Energy Always A Challenge IV Conferences. Between 20 and 22 of November we took on topics like Green Energy, National and European Energy Strategies and Energy Efficiency with distinguished speakers, key figures in the Energy Industry. As I’ve mentioned tradition earlier, one of the most captivating lectures was given by Cristian Pirvulescu, coordinator of Energy Always A Challenge I & II, former Chairman of LC Bucharest and Business Development Director at Romelectro. The academic part consisted of lectures on different topics such as an General Overview on SCADA, Advanced Industrial Applications, Power System Dispatching, DEMO Applications, which provided our participants with the much needed informations for the practical work and applications. These topics were chosen with a simple goal, to make participants to form an overview on the challenges and inovations currently raised by the Energy Industry. Energy Always a Challenge IV gathered 15 enthusiastic participants from all over Europe who came to Bucharest to learn all there is to know about energy market nowadays. They also had the opportunity to look up close to the hydrostation on the Lotru River, so they could understand the processes discussed during the lectures better. They have also experienced Bucharest’s nightlife and we can say that as the nights went by, it was getting harder to wake up next morning, but, eager to find out more, our participants attended the lectures just in time. As the final week of November 2013 was coming, LC Bucharest was honored by the presence of the greatest participants, who were eager to learn everything about SCADA and data acquisition protocols in the Energy Industry. So, as a reward for their sobriety and tenacity, the workshop ended with a trip to Voineasa where they relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful landscapes which Romania has to offer. They also had the chance to experience the “party process” in Romanian culture and taste some traditional meals during the International Night, as well as Farewell Party. The week, unfortunately, came to an end and we had to say goodbye untill the next workshop, but not before we would have the chance to hear the best motivational speech by one of the participants for whom our workshop was the last one of his EESTEC experience (we are honoured he has chosen ours) or the coordinator to kindly thank the participants for coming. We can only say that the night was a story to itself… 35
