Travelling The iSocialize Movement Text: Demjan Vester, LC Ljubljana Drawings: Demjan Vester, LC Ljubljana What now seems like a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, but was actually 2010, two naive teenagers joined EESTEC LC Ljubljana.Their names were Matic and Demjan, and very shortly after they joined EESTEC, LC Ljubljana organized one of it’s well known workshops, where, out of nowhere, they needed to stay with 20 foreigners for 8 days and nights, sleeping about 2 hours a day and be responsible for the incredibly complicated academic part of the workshop. During the event and its very intense social part, a silly little quote seemed to become quite popular. Every time a group of people would cheer with their drinks, they would invite their friends to join by saying “Come Socialize with us!”. They had no idea what they had invented. For some reason, Matic and Demjan thought a t-shirt would be the perfect thing to make. They were just missing the design. So one day, they got together, and said they weren’t leaving until they had an idea for a t-shirt design on paper. Several hours later, the lightbulb clicked … “SOCIALIZE! It HAS to be something with SOCIALIZE! We could sell it to EESTECers, and we would wear it to parties!” they shouted. The rest of the process is largely a blur, but at the end of the evening, a design had taken shape in Adobe Illustrator. The design would represent what EESTEC represented, and what they thought was important. This was, iParty, iSleep, iTravel. While the design remains the same to this day, the two of them never imagined that more than 150 shirts would roam the planet on 4 continents a few years later. Later that year, an interesting professor started his graphical design class with a simple piece of instruction: “At the end of the semester, bring me something! I don’t care what it is, but I want you to design something, make it, and bring it to me. That will be your entire grade.” 26
