Travelling About LC Athens Text: Maria Gontika, LC Athens Photographs: LC Athens LC Athens has always been very active on local and international level. Being the Congress Organizing Committee for the second time in four years is a great honor, combined with the ten years anniversary since the foundation of our LC. The long story of LC Athens began one decade ago, when in 2004 a handful of third-year students decided to enter the already big family of EESTEC. Their first trip was to Ljubljana, where they were taught the pure meaning of the EESTEC spirit, so going back, they started making plans for the foundation of the LC Athens. One year later, in Madrid, their dream became reality, and Athens became an official member of EESTEC.  During these ten years, more than 900 members have joined our local committee, and the number is still increasing. Our university, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is not only in the top 100 of the world ranking and in the top 30 of Europe’s ranking, but it is also a historical school. It was founded in 1836 by four benefactors from northern Greece. During the dictatorship in Greece, back in 1973, the students of NTUA occupied the building, demanding their rights from the dictator. On 17th of November 1973, the army invaded the university and the tank killed dozens of students who were guarding the gates. This was the start of the ending for the dictatorship in Greece. Since then, NTUA has built a great reputation, not only in Greece, but also in whole Europe, for its best qualified graduates. As students of this historical and successful technical university, the members of LC Athens are concerned about upgrading the academic level of all the students in our School and the whole student’s community. Most of LC Athens’ workshops and seminars address to undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students not only in engineering but also on the technical field in general. 24
