manufacturing execu ves report a significant gap in their ability to find talent with required skills. More troubling...the skills gap is expected to
grow substan ally over the next decade. What impact could the gap have on company performance and how large is the gap likely to grow? The
Manufacturing Ins tute and Deloi e conducted a study2 to understand the impact and extent of the skills gap, and the study results are as
follows:

ur department had the shared opportunity with
the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Ins tute of
Government to host Mayor Seok‐jin Mun of
Seodaemun district along with Nam‐Hee Oh,
Director of Administra on Support Division and Bo‐Ra Lee
Coordinator of External Affairs during their recent visit to
Athens. While in Athens, Mayor Mun and his two delega on
memebers met with UGA President Morehead and UGA Vice
President for Public Service and Outreach Jennifer Frum,
visited the Athens Community Career Academy for a
conversa on with Clarke County Schools Superintendent Philip
D. Lanoue, and toured cultural, recrea onal, and educa onal
facili es throughout Athens. They also had the opportunity to
a end a panel discussion regarding economic development
collabora ons in Athens‐Clarke County.

The trip was coordinated by the Carl Vinson Ins tute which
works to help na ons in transi on strengthen municipal and
administra ve capability. The Ins tute brings scholars and
prac oners to Georgia to help officials understand and
respond to global trends affec ng the state. They have an
ongoing rela onship with Seodaemun District and have
worked with elected officials from Seodaemun to establish
best prac ces through idea and government official exchange.
The main purpose of their visit was to formalize a partnership
between Seodaemun and Athens‐Clarke County. A
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony
between Athens‐Clarke County Unified Government and

Seodaemun District of South Korea was held on June 5, 2015.
The MOU forms a comprehensive coopera ve agreement
between the governments to promote future collabora on
and was facilitated by the Carl Vinson.
The MOU commits Athens‐Clarke County and Seodaemun to
promo ng cultural and educa onal exchange between the two
ci es, promo ng a economic development partnership,
sharing policy ideas and innova ons, and enhancing
coopera ve exchange to establish mutually beneficial
rela onship for the future. The MoU was signed by Mayor
Nancy Denson of Athens‐Clarke County and Mayor Seok‐jin
Mun of Seodaemun.
“I am confident that through the signing of this MOU we can
begin efforts to develop even stronger rela onships and
friendships between the people of Athens and Seodaemun. I
assure you that the Unified Government of Athens‐Clarke
County will be expedi ous in successfully implemen ng this
MOU“, shared Mayor Nancy Denson.
