Living in Turkey for a time is what
inspired the Cotton Company brand.
‘While in Turkey I travelled in search
of family-run textile makers. I adore
Turkish towels and I wanted to share
with my friends and family back in
South Africa.’ The most outstanding
feature of traditionally made Turkish
towels is that they are made of 100%
cotton. Thus the name of the brand
was born. Madeleine is quite fasci-
nated with the cotton plant and the
beauty of cotton. ‘[it] is a soft ball of
cotton wool [that is] spun into yarn
and used to make such a soft breath-
able textile.’
Working closely with traditional
weavers in rural Turkey ensures that
towels are made in the same way as
they’ve been made for generations:
hand loomed with the greatest skill.
Only the best quality, local Turk-
ish Cotton is used in the production
process. This combination of high-
quality cotton and traditional meth-
ods ensures that each product is in

tassels.
The fast-drying and lightweight Pe-
stemal (or Hammam) towels are the
signature product of the brand. They
are absorbent, making them versatile
and compact. Because of these quali-
ties, they are perfect for spas, swim-
ming pools and bathrooms. Pestemal
towels can, however, also be used in
the home as decorative items such as
table cloths, blankets and sofa cov-
ers. These towels can even be worn
as wraps or scarves.
