LARRY X TATUM
She seems like the type of person you
want to get to know because you feel
that she will somehow reveal a part of
yourself that you didn’t know was there.
Her pictures are honest and real and
good. Here is someone who has taken a
hobby and has grown it into a career with
sheer determination and prowess. Hers is
a story of overcoming fears and pursuing
desires that became louder and harder to
ignore.’ Her journey does much to inspire
us to follow in her footsteps and dare to
go beyond just dreaming and hoping.
We caught up with Lerato online to hear
the background of her photography jour-
ney. ‘LarryxTatum began a year ago when
I took the plunge to follow my dreams,’
she says. Derived from a nick name and
the name of her future daughter’s name,
LarryxTatum is growing beyond a hash-
tag into a brand in its own right. Taking
the plunge has allowed her to pursue a
profession that she describes as ‘happi-
ness, freedom, joy and adventure.’ She
enjoys the beauty of capturing ‘moments
in time’ and turning them into timeless
memories.
While working in Public Relations, Lera-
to used her free time to shoot at events
and experiment with self-portraits. After
not really finding fulfilment in the cor-
porate sector, she decided to move to
Cape Town where she spent the first few
months there completing a photography
course with one of her favourite pho-
tographers, Yuri Arcurs. At the end of the
course, Lerato made the tough decision
to stay in Cape Town and pour all her
