EDCON OPENS ITS DOORS TO YOUNG,
UP-AND-COMING DESIGNERS
Fresh new designs from Edcon’s very own Design Innovation Challenge recruits, have hit select Edgars stores
14 December 2017, Johannesburg – Rails of
fresh, new designs by some of the country’s
newest young designers will be available at
select Edgars stores from today (14 Decem-
ber 2017). The opportunity for these young
designers to showcase their talent came as a
result of Edcon’s Design Innovation Challenge,
an initiative that has given 14 young fashion
design graduates the opportunity to bring
their unique designs to the retail market.
The Edcon Design Innovation Challenge was
launched in September 2016 to advance skills
development and entrepreneurship in the
fashion sector. The initiative provides final
year and post-graduate fashion students with
the opportunity to hone their skills through
learning platforms made available by Edcon,
such as the three-month ‘21 Steps To Retail’
training programme facilitated by the organ-
isers of SA Fashion Week - Runway Produc-
tions, a one year-internship at Edcon and men-
torship by some of South Africa’s acclaimed
fashion designers.
Over the past year, the Edcon Design Innova-
tion Challenge has provided multiple opportu-
nities and has given exposure to these aspiring
young designers. These platforms include the
21 Steps To Retail fashion show held in June
to celebrate Youth Month and the Proudly
SA Fashion Show in partnership with Proudly
South African, held in September during Heri-
