T-shirt meets fashion , or shall one rather say high fashion meets people . With a charm , the brand TILONÉ employs what has become apparent since the beginning of globalisation and the 1960 ’ s as the power of the designer to become the actual product . Tiloné Viljoen was born in Durban and raised by his grandparents . From a young age he has always been interested in fashion and describes himself as “ a toddler Vivienne Westwood ”, from sewing on any embellishments he could find on his grandmother ’ s garments he had cut up . Having a look at his simplistic approach to incorporating illustrations of fashion icons such as Karl Lagerfeld , the Olsen twins and Anna Wintour on a simple white t-shirt as a deconstruct element of high fashion he celebrates
the what is admired about these icons . Tiloné is currently started studying a BA design programme at Inscape for which he received the HL Buhrs Trust scholarship for this year . He looks back at his school career where he was known for carving Chanel double C ’ s and Louis Vuitton LV in the school desks . He has always had a strong connection to fashion and justifies that fashion chose him . Tiloné stills feels there is a lacking in his education which he didn ’ t get in high school as he hadn ’ t been exposed to due to attending a public school which did not offer any art subjects . “ My favourite painting is Le Déjeuner sur l ’ herbe by Manet . I still have a strong desire to learn more on the subject of art history - Impressionism , specifically ,” Tiloné goes on to explain . Tiloné describes his illustrations lending towards a Picasso style but unlike the works of the great artist , he rationalises that his work is not insensitive or one dimensional as other minimalist works are . He believes 100 % in Sustainability and prints and sources his shirts all locally and will soon have 100 % recyclable packaging as well . He discloses his creative process as simple and explains that he illustrates the fashion icon he is currently obsessed with , thus his process has a natural flow to it . TILONÉ is a unisex brand and Tiloné himself loves when he sees how his customers style the shirts on Instagram . “ OLSEN is my most loved design .
