ENroute Yearbook 2015-16
An ENroute Reviewer’s Reflections
Jackie Brodie, Senior Fellow and ENroute Reviewer
I became a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education
Academy (SFHEA) through the ENroute Scheme in
May 2014. My motivation for applying for SFHEA
was so that I could take time out to consider my
achievements to date. This process gave me space
for reflection regarding my Learning, Teaching and
Assessment (LTA) activities and my philosophy
around LTA. Being a member of the HEA has offered
me some fantastic opportunities for networking,
training, and access to a small amount of LTA
funding. It has also allowed me to knowledgeably
support my colleagues in their aspirations to gain
fellowship status. Initially, I began to support my
colleagues as a School representative and a mentor
and, more lately, I have been acting as an ENroute
Reviewer.
Jackie Brodie,
ENroute Reviewer, Senior Fellow
Being a reviewer of applications for Associate Fellow, Fellow and Senior Fellow has
been a great privilege. It has offered me a glimpse into the innovative LTA practices
of a host of different professionals in the institution that I would never have had the
opportunity to meet in my day-to-day work. Having the opportunity to discuss with
others their LTA practices is always a pleasure and actually allows me additional
time to reflect on my own teaching practices and leadership role. Being a reviewer
has also afforded me many opportunities for CPD as I am regularly briefed with
up-to-date advice and guidance on the ENroute process. I particularly enjoy the
times when reviewers and mentors come together to discuss ‘lessons learned’ from
our experiences. Given my positive experiences in the role, I would not hesitate to
recommend to everyone who has successfully completed ENroute to think about
taking on the rewarding challenge of being either a mentor or a reviewer for the next
round of ENroute applicants.
