Elementary co-admin . focuses on the learning

Theodore Cribari III , assistant principal at Capri Elementary School in Campbell Union School District , has been named 2016 Elementary Co-Administrator of the Year .
The ACSA award is given to an active member who demonstrates exemplary performance in promoting the success of all students in a variety of metrics .
In his third year as assistant principal , Cribari has been instrumental in shaping the school vision . He is known for wearing many hats and maintaining a high degree of engagement in the school community . Colleagues can count on him to go the extra mile .
“ Ted genuinely is a coleader ,” said Shelly Viramontez , Campbell USD associate superintendent for human resources . “ While he effectively handles the duties most commonly associated with an assistant principal , such as student discipline , facility maintenance and general school management , he goes beyond those traditional duties to ensure student learning and staff success .”
Cribari is focused on the value of helping students and teachers succeed together . He works to be an inspiration to that teamwork , and the proof is in his actions .
Whether it ’ s the delivery of a Chromebook cart or finding access to counseling for a student or purchasing an online math program , Cribari makes sure it all happens in a timely manner .
“ More and more is expected of students and teachers ,” he said . “ I like to think that I put children and my teachers first and simply help clear paths for both to succeed .”

ACSA and other education stakeholder groups have been working to provide assurances that school districts have a way to obtain CalSTRS waivers to the six-month separation from service rules as quickly as possible .
Although the existing rules allow for exemptions , ACSA was hearing that many school districts were having difficulty in following the steps and accurately submitting the required documents .
After numerous conversations with
California State Teachers Retirement System and education stakeholders , it was determined that a new Employer Circular , including a draft school board resolution template , be provided for boards to use in completing the process and obtaining formal approval .
The Employer Information Circular published by CalSTRS can be obtained at http :// goo . gl / rl1csj . Here how the process works :

Statutory leave permits extended

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing has approved the authorization of a Teaching Permit for Statutory Leave ( TPSL ) that will provide school districts with the additional option of identifying a qualified emergency permit substitute to serve as a long-term substitute when a teacher is out on a statutory leave .
ACSA CTC Liaison Doug Gephart reports that , while there are stipulations on the use of this option , this will eliminate the need to rotate substitutes through a classroom during the term of the statutory leave resulting in a more stable learning environment for students .
David Simmons representing the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association initiated the leadership to create this option , which was supported by ACSA , CTA , CSBA , special education advocates and the California Department of Education .
“ Most statutory teacher leaves extend beyond the 20- or 30-day service limitation set forth in statute ,” Gephart said . “ This limitation often results in the use of a rotation of substitute teachers to cover the assignment of a teacher out on an extended leave , creating an inconsistent and inadequate learning environment .”
