Education bills moving in Capitol

Although the outcome of all education-related bills has yet to be determined , ACSA has already had success on the legislative front . The association co-sponsored Assembly Bill 2285 ( O ’ Donnell ), which aims to ease the earning of a teaching credential for out of state teachers . The bill was passed and signed into law .
AB 2285 removes certain educational and professional development requirements for out-of-state prepared teachers seeking a
clear teaching credential , and provides additional options for these teachers to demonstrate English Language development knowledge when seeking a secondary teaching credential . It removes the requirement for out-of-state prepared teachers seeking a clear teaching credential in California to earn a master ’ s degree or complete 150 hours of professional development . Further , this bill allows out-of-state prepared teachers seeking a secondary credential in California to demonstrate English Language development knowledge by earning either the CLAD certificate or an English Learner Authorization .
Other bills of interest to educators making their way through the Capitol follow below , along with their status as of press time for EdCal . The information was gathered from www . leginfo . legislature . ca . gov . Visit that site for full details on the bills .

SAB applications . ACSA is joining a number of groups in asking the State Allocation Board to defer a proposed action that would stop accepting applications submitted under the School Facility Program . The problem is that no state facility was bond was produced in 2012 or 2014 , and technically the law requires the applications to stop being accepted . But in the past , applications were still processed in the normal manner when state bond funds were exhausted .
