beside other people to witness their stories and help them find ways back to their own
resilience. For me, this is not stressful work because it’s so rewarding.
Recent terrorist acts in the world today are forcing us to grieve losses as a society.
Those tragic events just make your heart hurt and we are often at a loss for what to do.
Do what you can where you are. Is there something you can do in your home
community? For example, my son’s tutor is Muslim. One thing I want to do is talk with
her to make sure she is not feeling frightened or threatened and also find out if there is
something I can do to support her. It’s also important for us to take care of ourselves.
Put down the mobile phones. Turn off the television coverage of violent acts. Take a
walk. When it becomes too much, give yourself permission to take a break.
