“Our meetings covered ways to give and receive feedback,” she added. “I tell the club members it is important in many aspects in life to learn how to give and respond to criticism. We cover 25 total ways to critique in several different club sessions.” Other topics addressed within the group included: how to find editors, the difference between vanity and traditional publishing, and who students should submit work to, Absi said. “Face-to-face meeting opportunities have been posted for free writing workshops throughout the year,” she added. Students with a keen eye for the “picture perfect” shot enjoyed the school’s Photography Club. “The Photography Club has been busy snapping, shooting, editing and learning this year,” said advisor Erica Coffman. “From sharing student photos and learning about new photographers, to studying the role of photography in society, and going on photo scavenger hunts, our club members have participated in many exciting adventures!” Students had multiple opportunities to display their photographic creations. “We’ve been busy with various photo and design contests, including the Science Expo t-shirt contest and a few of our own themed photography contests,” she added.
“We even had special ECOT guest judges for one!” She also credits two students, Victoria O. and Kora W., for winning prizes for their works. Coffman said both “were not only beautiful, but technically strong as well.” The advisor is already looking ahead. “The Photography Club advisors had a blast working with the amazing students, and we can’t wait to create even more exciting adventures for you next year!” Coffman said. Of course, photography isn’t the only visual medium when it comes to the artistically inclined. A total of 75 students signed up for the art club this past year, said teacher and advisor Jennifer Patton. “Three field trips were offered to the Cleveland Museum of Art, Columbus Museum of Art, and the Cincinnati Art Museum,” she said. “Highlights from monthly meetings included the spooky art of Tim Burton, the Paper Person Adventure Contest, graffiti artist Banksy’s social awareness art, a Pixar Short Film day, and a community art challenge contest.” Anothe ?Y?Y? ?YY?[???\???[?\??
