Installation occurred on October 18, 2014, at Bethel AME Church, North Little Rock, where their speaker was the first black Deputy Adjutant General of the Arkansas Army National Guard, Brigadier General Johnson. This team is making history in Little Rock/North Little Rock areas by adamantly creating positive lifestyles for veterans and their community. They are committed to the fight to end the plight of homelessness, empower low-income and minority veterans, educating disadvantaged youth, enhancing skills veterans already possess, attacking unemployment issues and getting souls to the polls. Intuition is key. There is no roadmap when leading a team through uncharted waters; everything is uncertain. This is why they have partnered with their local branches of the NAACP. Drawing on experience is a good reflex, as is reaching out to your mentors for support. Arkansas suffers a horrendous backlog, particularly with veterans who served in the Vietnam War. Flying the ethical plane, this team is held to high standards; therefore, honesty and ethical behavior is a key value in their organization. This command has all the qualities of good leadership coupled with an ability to finesse their vision. Their motivation to communicate clearly shows in the confidence they exhibit while assisting veterans with their concerns. Eager to become Veteran Service Officers, they meet monthly with their membership to ascertain the specifics of each veteran’s concern. They possess the ability to inspire by expecting, encouraging and acknowledging the efforts of their membership. By encouraging their clients and researching VA rules, regulations and code laws regarding perspective complaints, they are ensuring a decrease in the number of claims that are being denied. NABVETS EclipSE MAgAziNE Winter 2014 C H A P T E R # 0 1 0 8 In an effort to gain exposure to increase their membership, they have conducted three radio broadcast interviews, submitted ads in newspapers, passed out fliers throughout their community and the Veterans Administration office and attended several town hall meetings. They have been successful in acquiring forty or more 2122s, six 8940 referrals and receive calls daily from new potential members. With their feet firmly on the ground, this command is off and running. They assist veterans, their spouses and dependents as well as active duty service members.
