NABVETS ECLIPSE WEB-RADIO Gives a New Voice to Veterans Tune -In TODAY www.eclipseradio.us Veterans Day is a time set aside to remember our veterans, and what better way to honor the men and women who have served our country than by launching a new initiative aimed at serving them. The Milwaukee Headquarters of NABVETS did just that with its first official day of broadcasting from its web-based radio station, Eclipse Radio, on November 11. The station, which is set up to provide news, information and entertainment to NABVETS’ members and extended family, is accessible from anywhere in the world, 24/7, via the website www.eclipseradio.us. To hear Eclipse Radio, just go to the website and click the play button on the left to be instantly connected to the broadcast. Another way to connect is to scroll mid-way down on the webpage and click on the “press here for radio” button. This will take you to Live365’s website, where you can also hear our content. Radio Outreach Eclipse Radio will broadcast live talk and interview segments, with repeats during the week. This will be interspersed with entertainment including hit music from the soul and R&B genre. Commander Kornegay will also offer inspirational commentary centering on crucial issues. It is our belief that information is power and by expanding our circle of influence through this medium, we hope our neighboring community of veterans will learn more about our organization and better understand how they can take action to help all veterans attain a positive lifestyle. The founders of Eclipse Radio crafted a plan to address the needs and interests of black and minority veterans, while also being inclusive of all veterans. Topics will include up-to-date VSO and VA information, the latest advice on healthy living, commander editorials, and the Chaplain’s Corner. We also hope to inspire some friendly competition between regions during national fund raising events, membership drives, and the nationwide “Register to Vote” campaign in 2016. Our theory is “everyone has a story,” so all veterans, spouses, children and the community at large will not only hear veterans’ stories that are uplifting and inspiring, but are encouraged to send in their own compelling stories for possible broadcast. (Left-Right) Frank Beamon, Richard Rodgers, William Sims and K’uu Wamubu Station Inspiration Eclipse Radio is the brainchild of Veterans Intervention Project (VIP), a Milwaukee chapter of NABVETS installed on July 26, 2014. The inspiration came to this group during a meeting with Willie Davis, Packers Hall of Famer, veteran, and owner of five radio stations throughout the USA. A scaled down version of Mr. Davis’s model was presented to VIP’s board, after which it was agreed that the idea should be presented to NABVETS. In April 2014, the idea was presented to NABVETS/CVI management as a low power (non-commercial) radio station. This crucial meeting was attended by veteran and past Wisconsin State Commander Mr. K’uu Wamubu; NABVETS Emeritus Board Member Richard Rodgers; co-founder of NABVETS and current IVOCC Chapter Commander Mr. William Sims; and by me, Frank Beamon, VIP Chapter Commander and Eclipse Radio General Manager. The limitations of a low power station were tabled, a name was adopted, and the concept of our far-reaching Internet radio was underway. Special Thanks The station would not exist without all those who believed in and supported the project. Mr. William Sims strived daily to secure the station’s position, and forwarded a $2K loan designated to building the station. K’uu Wamubu’s influence helped to introduce the station to clergy, business leaders, students, doctors, politicians and volunteers. Mr. Rodgers, a seasoned show host in his own right, was crucial to the project’s inception and development. Brigadier General (Ret) Robert Cocroft, Emeritus Board Member, provided administrative support, direction, leadership and advice. Other stakeholders include Mike Beal, Calvin Shield, and the entire VIP 0105 chapter. Tune -In TODAY www.eclipseradio.us 24 Thanks to one and all as we continue to find new ways to meet our mission.
