Sophisticated Eyes & Brows

Let's keep the eye and brow makeup application easy, yet as sophisticated as possible. Start by shaping and filling in your brown however you like. Next, prime your eyelids with your favorite eyeshadow primer or concealer. My favorite is the Couture Eye Primer from YSL.

Using an eyeshadow close to your natural skin tone, set your eyelids. With a medium shade that is one or two shades darker that your skin tone, a bronzer, or your favorite contour powder, use these as a transition shade. Hold a mirror and look directly into it. The mirror will allow you to see exactly where to put the transition shade on your crease line. Take the medium shade and blend it onto your crease in windshield motions, positioning your brush at a 90-degree angle.

Blend until you are happy with the outcome.

To make your eyes pop, take a shimmery or matte eye shadow that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone to highlight your browbone. To define the lash line, use a black waterproof or water-resistant eyeliner. Tilt your head back until you can see your upper waterline and fill it in all the way to your inner lash line.

Finally, you want to make your eyes pop with mascara. If you have straight lashes, I would recommend using a lash curler before applying mascara. I love a full, flirty lash for this look. Do 2-3 coats of mascara on the top and bottom lashes. Don't forget to clean off the excess mascara on the wand each coat.

Lipstick's Dual Purpose

I love a good everyday lipstick that's ideal for a natural makeup look. You are going to not only put this on your lips but your cheeks as well. As a makeup artist, simplicity and versatility are essential when I need to make a look happen in 30 minutes! Take your everyday lipstick and warm it up in the back of your hand almost as if you were testing the lipstick as you do at your favorite beauty department. Do this until you get a generous amount. Start adding one to two drops of foundation and mix it with your finger or your stippling brush to tone down the lipstick shade. Take your stippling brush, sweeping through the mixture, and brush along your cheekbones softly. Blend the blush with a different fluffy brush and use a tissue to blot any excess.

Lipstick is the last step to this timeless makeup look. It can be one shade deeper than your everyday lipstick or a bold color such as red. If you are fair-skinned, corals, blue-based cherry reds, and warm brick reds are best for you. For medium skin, use orange, cherry, or cranberry reds. Finally, for dark skin, use deep warm reds, raspberries, and blue-based reds.

A timeless makeup look will always save the day (and night). It is so chic and sophisticated.
