Chris: What can you tell us about how you got started in the modeling industry?

Carleen: As a child, I always loved playing "dress-up" and didn't pass up any opportunity to be a "ham" in front of a camera! So I guess I’d have to say that I’ve always been interested in the industry, but I really started dabbling in modeling when I was a senior in high school. However, growing up in a very small town made it difficult. Work was not easy to find, and when I did get jobs, my parents would have to drive me about 4 hours away. So modeling was put on hold until I was a little older and moved to a larger city.

Chris: Describe your daily routine when you attend castings?

Carleen: My routine actually starts the night before the casting. I make sure that I have everything that I need ready to go: my comp card, shoes, clothes, directions, etc. I always want to be sure I’m prepared. I also make sure that I eat well and get plenty of sleep. Sleep is always my number one priority the night before. I do not ever want to attend a casting tired because it will show. Then the day of, I organize everything neatly. First impressions are important. I eat, and then I make sure that I look my best before heading out. [I make] sure to arrive early to the casting.

Chris: What would you typically wear to a casting?

Carleen: To a casting I typically wear dark skinny jeans, a dark fitted tank top, and nice tall heels that I can easily walk in.

Chris: Favorite photo shoot and why?

Carleen: It is hard to pick just one favorite shoot. My recent shoot for the cover of Austin Wedding Style Magazine would have to be it. The location was absolutely beautiful, the handmade dress was stunning, and the team was fantastic.

Chris: Describe yourself in five words?

Carleen: Professional, energetic, outgoing, dependable and creative.

Chris: What is your favorite food?

Carleen: Any. :-) I really just like food in general. But, if I had to pick a favorite, I guess I would have to say Pho.

Chris: Describe your perfect day?

Carleen: Well, the perfect day, in the life of Carleen, would be one where I am with those that I love (including my fur babies) on a beach under the sun.

Chris: Any advice for up and coming models?

Carleen: Always be prepared, do your research, try to be thick-skinned (you won’t get every job you cast for), and don’t lose yourself in the mix. Enjoy the adventure.

Chris: What are the pros and cons of the industry?

Carleen: Just like any industry there are many pros and cons. I feel like the pros and cons
