17 Transportation Planning & Roads The Transportation Services Division manages the daily operations and maintenance of the Georgetown Municipal Airport, public storm water conveyance system, city streets, sidewalks and rights-of-way. The Streets Department inspects daily the city’s roadways for sign repair, pavement management and sight obstructions. These departments work closely with TxDot and the County Roads Department to keep up with traffic needs by creating and improving city streets and connections to IH-35, SH 29 and SH 130. This keeps Georgetown moving and easily accessible from Austin, Dallas, San Antonio and other major Texas markets. The drive to Austin Bergstrom International Airport is under 40 miles and 45 minutes away. In addition to prime highway access, freight can be moved by Georgetown Railroad, a dual-rail provider with direct connections to Union Pacific and BNSF Railways. Airport The Georgetown Municipal Airport is a towered reliever general aviation airport serving general and corporate aviation. Owned by the City of Georgetown, the airport provides full-service amenities, aviation fuel, avionics sales, service, and aircraft maintenance. Fixed base operators, managed by the City’s Public Works Department, offer comfortable first class facilities for travelers and pilots alike. The main runway is 5,004 feet and can handle most business air traffic including G-4 and Global Express. In addition to overnight tie-down spaces, rental car agencies and a city courtesy car, the airport offers: • flight planning room • wi-fi • public lounge • Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS)
