In conversation with 19-year-old singer, Gus. He’s making a breakthrough into the music
industry as he charms our ears with mellow tunes.
Introduce yourself.
Hello my name is Gus Dapperton and I’m 19
years old. I grew up in Warwick, New
York. Now I attend Drexel University in Philly.
Describe your sound.
Pure and full of life. It is hard for me to
categorize it in a particular genre.
When did you start making music?
I always played music and wrote songs growing
up but I didn’t seriously start making music
until I was 13.
Why do you create music?
It is my passion and true love. I try to convey
every major experience in my life in a way that
everyone can relate to. Whenever I make that
connection it’s an absolutely wonderful feeling.
What are your goals for music?
I hope to be the best artist I can be and reach as
many people as possible. I want to make
timeless art.
Who inspires you?
Elijah Bank$y, Matthew Cohen, Beshken, and
Daniel Regan.
Proudest moment in music so far?
I cannot pinpoint a particular moment but I do
take pride in understanding the constant
progression I go through every time I finish a
new song.
If you could wor k with a ny other music
artist, who would it be & why?
I can’t think of anyone else right now other
than Beshken. He make s genuine art and I love
working with him. He is also a dear friend.
How do you feel when you listen to music?
I feel nostalgic and very existent in our world.
How do you feel when you create music?
I feel invincible and very existent in my head.
