International Shanghai As parents, you have made the decision to
join Wellington College International Shanghai
based on our shared beliefs, vision and values.
At every opportunity, we reinforce that
our values are not something that we will
simply impart to your children, rather, they
are values that are demonstrated by every
member of the Wellington community and
its families. Our aim in the Early Years is to develop our
pupils into confident and eager learners, to
instil in them a love of knowledge that stays
with them throughout their lives. We want
our pupils to feel safe and valued within a
setting that has the highest expectations
of them. Equally, we want them to pursue
excellence in all they do and find delight and
interest in the world around them.
We have an expectation that all family
members, staff and pupils will hold these
values to be true, demonstrate them
consistently and be proud to be a part of the
setting. The Wellington Values and Identity
run through everything that we do; they are
in our policies, our practice, they form the
basis of our relationships and our conduct
throughout each day. We look forward to joining them on this
journey of discovery and will be privileged to
support them during these crucial years.
I am delighted that you have chosen Wellington
College International Shanghai. Our aim
is to be the best international school in
Shanghai and ultimately one of the best in
the world. This means educating the whole
child; challenging them to develop all of their
intelligence, passions and talents, and to do
so better than any other school would. Our
Wellington Identity and Values provide the
starting points for an education that we know
will prepare our pupils for happy, productive
adulthoods.
The very best education is built on strong
partnerships between school and home, so
you will have a big role to play in helping us
provide a world-class experience for all our
pupils. This booklet is designed to be an easy
reference point for much of the information
you will need as a Wellington parent to
support your child or children.
Wellington is growing, but we will always be
small enough to provide a personal experience
tailored to the needs of each pupil and their
family. This is particularly true now that we

have our purpose-built Early Years Centre.
Children in the EYC will benefit from facilities
designed specifically for them while remaining an
integral part of Wellington College.
We take great pride in our deep roots and
strong links to one of England’s greatest schools.
We are also proud of our internationalism,
celebrating our pupils’ and families’ backgrounds,
as they hail from all over the world. Shanghai is
a vibrant, exciting city at the very heart of the
world’s economic and social development, and
our dynamic approach to progressive education
reflects that. We respect and enjoy the rich,
historic Chinese culture and all that Shanghai can
offer our pupils. We have a proud tradition and
we are educating for the future.
