Www.DCommunication-group.com Career Sin # 7: Lacking Experience Main Heading You finished university. Now what? Many students go through their studies without gaining any practical experience. Even in cases where the study requires an internship in order to graduate many find it easier to pretend they did an internship instead of actually doing it. The reason is that internships are not that easy to find. Students however chose to skip on other opportunities to gain experience as participation in projects, student organizations, voluntary work, etc. as well. This is a career sin that will cost them a lot. No one is willing to hire a person with no experience because they are not prepared to handle the real world. What to do? For those still studying the advice is clear: participate in as many professional activities as possible and get internships when possible. This will give you much better chances to find a job. For those who finished their studies without gaining any experience the advice is to prepare for a long trip. They will have to find any opportunity to gain experience (not so many opportunities when already out of school) and get the most out of them. They will also have to prepare to start their career with low paid jobs and embarrassingly low entry levels. Voluntary work can help them greatly gain the experience they lack. Page 10
