3. When you knew the outcome of the assessment, how did you feel about it?

“After the assessment, I felt relieved that my problem wasn’t in my head and that I had something to refer to, I also felt angry that I was not assessed earlier in life.”

“I thought that after the assessment it explained a lot of things, there was a bridge that I didn’t understand and this explained it. By having this explanation has helped me in finding better techniques.”

“I wasn’t surprised, I suppose deep down I always knew there was a problem but because I have always been able to muddle through I never really saw it as an issue”

“I wasn’t happy at first, initially I was a bit shocked and confused and I started to dwell on the past.”

“I initially thought I was thick and it wasn’t until I had a good talk with the assessor, he explained what I needed to be able to process information.”

4. Do you think that the assessment has taken you forwards?

“It has made my life at work much easier, co workers understand me better and I felt with the support my employer have given me has made me productive in my role.”

“I am having tutoring at the moment, which has identified my preferred learning style which my employer is supporting. I have been provided with a laptop with specialist software.”

“Having the assessment got me really down, it took a long time for me to see any support however once I did seek support I did notice things changed very quickly for the better.”

“It’s given me the confidence to speak to my managers and to be able to talk about my problems and it is nice to know that there is help available to improve the situation.”

5. What sort of adjustments were made at work?

“My employer has allowed me time out of work to see a dyslexia tutor, where we can discuss my work and how I can overcome difficulties and organise myself better.”

“I think my employer has made reasonable adjustments to the way that i work and by allowing me to adjust my teaching technique. I have been given support with a dyslexia tutor to work on reading and my processing skills and I hope this will affect the way that i work with students in a positive way.”

“My assessment has given my line manager a deeper understanding into dyslexia. My employer has now created a training plan to all line managers around dyslexia and because I work in a very busy office and there is always something going on I have now been given flexitime so I can make a good head start on my workload early in the morning before any distractions. My manager is very keen to support this so anything that needs to happen she makes sure it does.”

“My manager has understood dyslexia and rather than dishing out information to me, they asked how I want the information, what’s the best way I learn things; for example rather than giving me a paper document they email it to me so I can use my audio software. I feel there has been an increased improvement and understanding from the organisation.
