Methodolgy

How, what and why?

The literature review has highlighted many of the important factors of dyslexia as a whole, although the objectives of report do not relate too many of the themes relating in the literature review It was vital to see dyslexia as an overview in many aspects of a dyslexic person’s life in order to gain the big picture. This report has been influenced by my own personal experience with dyslexia. Throughout employment, many employers do not appreciate the link between dyslexia and commonly related performance issues, and therefore can often judge their dyslexic employees unfairly as I have firsthand experience off. The purpose of this report is to investigate dyslexic employees in the workplace and how dyslexia impacts on their day to day working life.

The methods of the report are as followed:

Case Studies

Case studies, Literature, theorists from academic books and the internet will be used to form the literature review. They will also be used to document evidence relating specific to dyslexia in the workplace and to explore what industries, job roles and skills dyslexic people commonly have.

Questionnaires

The questionnaire was created to collect information from participants with dyslexia and to provide evidence such as; age of diagnosis, how dyslexia affected them in education and what qualifications they posses. The questionnaire will also identify their working life looking at what support they have received from their employers. The questionnaire will also allow participants to open up with their experiences with dyslexia and give them a chance to be interviewed to discuss these in greater detail.

Interviews

Interviews with dyslexic employees across different organisations, job roles and industries will be interviewed and will try to identify what they struggle with, when they were assessed as being dyslexic, when they disclosed their learning disability to their employer/line manager, what adjustments have been made to support them and what difference it has made to their work performance.

Interviews with employers/line managers will give the opportunity to obtain their views and experiences of employing dyslexic people. It will also give the analysis another opportunity to recognise what support is available to employers/line manager to support their dyslexic workforce.
