N A M C O SPEAKS WITH MILLENNIALS DyNAMC MEDIA COVERAGE PRESENTS... ON OPERATING AS MINORITIES IN THE CORPORATE WORLD National Association of Minority Companies Inc VP Govt. Affairs/ Public Relations Douglas Phason spoke with students at Kennesaw State University on April 20, 2017. 12 N AMCO student member and DyNAMC Leaders for a Changing World Future Leader Jamari Johnson who is the President of KSU Chapter of NABA AAMI Ambassador was instrumental in coordinating this campus event. Jamari says “Millennials often face learning gaps between graduation and the corporate world; this includes on-the job training, emotional intelligence, and cultural adaptation. Professionals can bridge the gap by teaching and becoming mentors.” Representing the Kennesaw State Chapter of National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), Jamari Johnson reached out to NAMCO. As the current Vice President of Government Relations and External Affairs of NAMCO, retired corporate executive and former diversity official, Douglas Phason would be a consequential person able to speak to the students from experience. NABA is a nationwide organization that “strives to bridge the opportunity gap for black professionals in the fields of accounting and finance” (quoted from www. nabainc.org). Student chapters serve as extensions of NABA and as a pipeline for future professionals. The title of the event was “Operating as Minorities in the Corporate World”. Mr. Phason was enthusiastic about the topic and began the discussion by highlighting the definition of “operating”. One of the ways he defined operating was having control. He emphasized to the students the understanding that they have control over their actions and not what happens around them. His first
