Duncan… The Magazine Winter 2018 - Page 10

every person can find something to eat in Scott’s kitchen. Sandwiches include customer favorite B3, which is hot roast beef with melted provolone, crispy bacon, lettuce, tomato, pepperoncini peppers, sliced purple onion and house-made black pepper garlic mayo, or the chicken salad sandwich, which restaurant workers and Duncan citizens both call “kind of a big deal.” It features fresh diced white meat chicken, tart apples, celery, sweetened and dried cranberries and a top-secret seasoned mayonnaise. That’s not to forget one of the original sandwiches from the legendary Miss Kitty who originally opened the Merchant Bar in 1945. The Miss Kitty, named after the unique and spicy lady who originally ran the shop, comes with diced white meat chicken, Italian hot ham and melted provolone. It’s topped with lettuce, tomato, purple onion and house-made creamy tomato garlic dressing. Sandwiches aren’t the only thing The Merchant offers its patrons, though. Salads and spuds are also on the menu. Whether the meal is for there or to go, you’re sure to enjoy the chopped cobb salad, the not-so-basic spud or the strawberry pecan salad  topped with house-made poppyseed dressing. The restaurant workers may even tell you they’ve been putting strawberries on spinach before it was cool. Each salad and spud is served with a mini honey butter croissant. The restaurant also offers daily specials. Soups and other dishes, like chicken spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken taco salad or mexi-manicotti, vary by day of the week. The Merchant doesn’t stop there though. You can also finish up your meal with everyday desserts until they’re gone, like the Merchant’s famous banana pudding, a variety of cookies or even a chocolate delight. The Merchant is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. They offer dine in or carry out and take call ahead orders, too.
