First Lady Michelle Obama , as part of the Joining Forces initiative , delivered the keynote address at the Unite for Veterans Summit , an event organized by the United Way of Greater Los Angeles , the Federal Reserve Bank , and the University of Southern California , at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Los Angeles on July 16 , 2014 .
It was a historic moment for veterans across the country when First Lady Michelle Obama and United Way of Greater Los Angeles reaffirmed their mutual commitment to lead the way in ending veteran homelessness and unemployment in Los Angeles County to a crowd of over 900 people . LA LOFTS REALTY was there in support of this venture .
With the nation watching , the First Lady commended United Way of Greater Los Angeles for their veterans work and called on all of us to finish the job and create momentum across America . “ So I want to applaud ... United Way of Greater Los Angeles for leading the charge here ... and I want you to know that when you reach these goals , yes , when , not if , you will be a model for the entire country ... that ’ s the impact you all can have , an impact that would be felt by millions of veterans across this country ,” said Michelle Obama to the 900 in attendance at the summit .
At the summit , courageous stories were shared from our County ’ s very own veteran citizens who defended our freedom yet received unwelcome homecomings . Marva who ended up homeless , Matthew who suffered from severe trauma , and last but not least , Jim , who had no one to turn to . These stories set the tone for the Summit ’ s call to action for us to work together to ensure not even one veteran is homeless or unemployed . Donors and partners like you generously support United Way ’ s veteran initiatives that have , in the past four years , helped move 9,000 homeless veterans into permanent housing and secured jobs for 2,000 veterans .
