Akai Ito is Japanese for “red string.” According to ancient Chinese myth and adopted by Japanese culture, the gods tie a red string around the pinky of those that are destined to meet each other, fall in love or have a symbiotic relationship. Proprietors Jeremy Friend and Douglas VanLaningham express this concept in a curated selection of high-end separates with a dark, edgy Euro-underground feel. The boutique first opened in the former Union Pacific Railroad building in the Arts District. After testing the waters as a pop-up for Downtown ARTWALK, they have moved their business to the Historic Core.
