children to these families . PATH Beyond Shelter was established to fill these service gaps and assist homeless families to return to permanent housing as quickly as possible ( i . e ., Housing First ); once in housing , families would then have access to home-based services , including life skills education , designed to foster housing stability and family well-being . These services are a necessity to ensure that the families can become self-sufficient and not end up returning to living on the street .
I am pleased to say I was able to support the organization in many ways by providing business leadership and guidance and hosting a series of fundraising events that helped raise much needed funds . I also donated personal funds to help keep the organization in operation . During the financial downturn in 2008 the situation worsened for the agency as funds began to dry up . At the same time we were seeing an increase in the number of people becoming homeless . I am happy to say that with the hard work of the staff and the dedication of the board , we were able to keep the organization alive and were successful in merging Beyond Shelter with PATH ( people assisting the homeless ) to form PATH Beyond Shelter .
I truly believe that together , we can all end chronic and veteran homelessness in Los Angeles . It starts with learning as much as you can about the issue and having the desire to get involved .
