Nestled between the Broad Museum and the Emerson, Otium awaits. With its placement behind behind Eli Broad’s olive grove, Otium it looks more like
a fabulous residence you’d find on the cliffs of Big Sur
rather a stand-alone restaurant on Bunker Hill. Your
first tough choice: patio or inside, because both are incredible. Architect Osvaldo Maiozzi, Studio Unltd and
House of Honey have delivered a singular modern but
earthy space warmed with a spectrum of woods and
forest hues.
And word is the food is amazing. Chef Timothy Hollingsworth takes his first solo flight seriously. The menu has
been described as “familiar but elevated,” a smart
strategy when you have office workers and museum
guests by day, cultural vultures and corporate hosts by
night. Bill Chait having been at this a while, has a uncanny skill of delivering what a specific location requires.
Case in point, the small, attractively stocked coffee and
pastry kiosk by the Broad’s gift shop…a godsend for
the throngs waiting for their timed entrance into the
museum.
So when can you experience Otium? Lunch, dinner
and brunch are served, but don’t miss out on cocktails
on the patio!
