DTLA LIFE MAG #24 | DECEMBER 2015 | Page 16

The first time I walked by James Jalfaro’s store, I wanted to move in! There is a wizardry to not just arranging furniture but detailing it out with pillows, lamps, artwork and accessories to make the shopper wish they could write a check for the whole thing. A former chemist, Jalfaro brings a different perspective to this kind of work. Many of the pieces are custom, and the artwork is by local talent. There is no cookie cutter vibe. In fact, since Jalfaro designs and builds most of the furniture, what you see is just a point of departure. Any couch, chair or table could be realized in any number of woods and fabrics. Even better, you can have this one-of-a-kind approach without the Robertson Blvd.-type pricing. Accessory items start at $10 with many priced below $100. The art starts at $75 with a major pi ece tagged at $1800. The largest sectional runs $3900, but if you can afford to live in a space large enough to accommodate it, that price is reasonable for what you are getting. So why don’t you and your imagination give James a visit? Jalfaro Design Studio 650 South Spring Street R2 (entry on 7th) Los Angeles, CA 90014 (213) 840 2895 facebook.com/jalfarodesign
