DTLA LIFE MAG #24 | DECEMBER 2015 | Page 15

I smell success. The new bar/restaurant barcito, nicely balances a wink to the old country while embracing the new. Photomurals of Buenos Aires, sturdy wood bar and café chairs, the checkerboard floor and a marvelous oversized bar mirror framed in carved wood flavor your a sense of place, while the floor to ceiling windows and exposed HVAC reminds you that you are still in DTLA. Argentine-based small plates and batch cocktails are the specialty here. Noquis (gnocchi en Espanol) is the current favorite with the Palmitos salad, Asado and Provelenta also getting major thumbs up. Prices run between $6-$13 dollars, so you can quickly try a few items. The upbeat general manager, Andrea Borgen is an Argentine native and an experienced New York restaurateur who knows how to please guests and keep things moving. For now dinner is the thing, but time your arrival because the Staples Center pre-game/pre-concert crowd has discovered barcito, so it can get crowded. Lunch is in the works, which will no doubt be a flash mob once the AEG and AT&T office crowds gets wind of this.
