DTLA LIFE MAG #16 | APRIL 2015 | Page 46

Carol Cirillo Stanley’s curiosity for life, appreciation of beauty on every level is a compulsion. Equally indomitable is her ability to translate her stimulus via her abundant imagination into her own impeccable aesthetic. Style exudes Stanley, it is effortless for her, though her own modesty would never perceive or articulate it that way. She is an amalgamation of all of her senses and her heart. Her curiosity is matched only by her nurturing spirit, which is matched by her keen eye and assured instincts, matched by her love of humanity – in one word: talent. Currently on display at GDCA are two works from the photographer’s newest portfolio “Urban Oasis“: “Interior Metamorphosis” and “Paris view from a Window”. This series is unique in that it combines two different mediums: watercolor and photography. The images are derived from Cirillo Stanley’s original watercolor paintings. She then photographs the paintings and prints them on aluminum in her signature style. Each image is one-of-a-kind, single edition, preserving the originality of the painting. The aluminum print in effect takes the place of the original watercolor, which, by nature of its components, must disintegrate. “My inspiration for the work that I do is sheer desire to create. I am motivated by the need to express and the art of photography allows me to do that.“, says the artist. Stanley uses the Nikon D4 and the Nikon 800E for all of her current work. “Using the digital camera as I would a film camera forces me to be slow and deliberate in each shot.” Carol Cirillo Stanley’s work will remain on view through April 30th, 2015. GDCA is located at 727 S. Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90014 (between 7th & 8th streets).
