Happy to report the recently shuttered Novel Café has reopened with a whole new
look and menu courtesy of Groundwork Coffee team. The entire space has been
reworked, creating an inviting, two-level dining area.
Charged with bringing the food to a similar level as the coffee, executive chef
Shawn Dobbins obeys the organic/local/sustainable ethos, delivering clever takes
on some classics. Blackberry thyme muffins and poached organic eggs on avocado halves feel decadent and healthy at the same time. The short ribs for sandwiches have been braised in Groundwork’s own cold brew.
You are in good hands. Groundwork has been in the coffee game for 25 years. The
company has always walked the walk with a commitment to fair trade sourcing,
small batch roasting, organic, local food and now, furniture from Folsom Prison.
