THE ACE HOTEL AND

INHERENT VICE

Downtown Los Angeles ; some may think that there is not much to do after 6pm in this industrial , metropolitan area other than bars , clubs , and loafing . Well , I say that there are still plenty of amazing things about DTLA that many are still unaware of . One such instance would be the activities that transpired on Monday , December 1st .
Downtown Los Angeles ; many still believe that there isn ’ t much else to the city other than drinking and dancing … I would beg to differ ; one just has to know where to look .
The LA screening was the first initiative in this creative partnership , which will include gallery exhibitions at Ace Hotel in London , New York and Downtown Los Angeles in January . For hotel guests , there will also be custom vinyls of the film score by Jonny Greenwood . More to Follow .

The production company that brought you The Matrix , The Dark Knight , and the “ Harry Potter ” film franchise partnered with the prestigious Ace Hotel in Los Angeles to bring a special screening event of Paul Thomas Anderson ’ s latest film , Inherent Vice . The director has brought other great movies such as There Will be Blood , Punch-Drunk Love , and Boogie Nights , and as such expects to deliver the same for Inherent Vice .
The former United Artist Theater already had a block circling line at two hours prior to opening for Anderson ’ s latest film , such anticipation attracted those who weren ’ t aware of this event lined up at the box window in attempts to purchase tickets . I was invited to attend the pre-screening reception on the second floor of the hotel to enjoy cocktails , appetizers , and a company of people excited to see this film .
Though it was only a few flights of stairs above the street level , the views from the windows of the Segovia Hall were a photographer ’ s dream ; perfect lightning , ambiance , and a feeling of evangelical prowess as attendants stared over the crowd below . As curtains opened up , we were lead to the theater to adjourn to our seats , anticipation rose , but what was impressive was how beautiful and stunning the aesthetics of the theater was . It was befitting royalty , or those of presidential status .
An adaptation of the novel written by Thomas Pynchon , Inherent Vice is a surf noir and psychedelic romp following Doc Sportello as he investigates the disappearance of his ex-lover who may be involved with a kidnapping and robbery . His comedic misadventure has him put through unfortunate encounters with the police , FBI , and various drug cults .
Set in 1970 , and in the beautiful city of Los Angeles , and the coast line , this parade of dopers , officers , cultists , and hustlers storms endlessly throughout this film .
Inherent Vice delivered an entertaining journey through the paranoia ’ s and trippy experiences of this film , with a brilliant cast ( Joaquin Phoenix , Reese Witherspoon , Josh Brolin , Benicio del Toro , Owen Wilson , Jena Malone , Katherine Waterston , Martin Short , Maya Rudolph ) just to top the cherry that is this Vanilla Sundae of a film .
