Little wonder then that some of us are casting our
hooks in bigger ponds. Sites like nubianlinks.com are
unashamedly aiming to pair black people with partners
from different races. It is testament to how little things
have changed that even a site so clearly focused on
cross-racial coupling as nubianlinks.com still shrouds
its purpose under the by-line “Are you single,
Caucasian or other?”
There is a level of ‘maturity’ and ‘honesty’ we lack
when dealing with issues of sex and politics both on
or offline. Maybe nubianlinks.com should simply ask
their potential customers, “Are you looking for a
partner from another race?” without worrying about
how some of us might react to it. Web dating may be
a brave new world but do we really have the bottle for
it? Can we embrace the new and sweet with the new
and apparently less sweet? I can’t explain exactly what
it was that made me keep my photo off the website
during testing but I am planning to continue to box
up all my prejudices and suckle the freedoms so hard
fought on my behalf. What about you?
