SEASON 1 FINALE: NISSAN SHOWDOWN Story by Greg Friend and Matthew Wheatley Photos by Luke Munnell When we’ve had previous intramanufacturer battles, we’ve featured Hondas, but this time it’s Nissan’s turn in the spotlight. The company has been making enthusiast cars for years, so it only makes sense that two titans of Nissan’s history would battle it out on the time-attack track. Of course, we have a GT-R (an R35, to be specific) and a…240SX? Sure, we all know the GT-R is a monster on the track, so how can the 240SX possibly keep up? It’s more known for drifting than straight-line speed. But this isn’t your average S13. It’s got a ton of aero, an SR-20 swap and a Garrett turbo. Both cars are running Nitto NT01s, and the GT-R features a bunch of upgrades as well, so this is shaping up to be a closer—and faster—battle than it might seem at first. We pitted the two cars against each other at the Chuckwalla Raceway in Desert Center, California, for the battle. Keep reading to learn more about how each car has been upgraded, and take a guess at which car was faster. DRIVINGLINE.COM 9
