Topic: Phases of the moon

Summary: To learn and create the different phases of the moon, focusing on the most recognizable ones in the night sky: full, new, half and crescent.

Objective

1. Review four (4) phases of the moon.

2. Create the different phases of the moon with felt, glue and glitter.

3. Create the different phases of the moon with Oreo cookies.

Materials: felt, glue, glitter, Oreo cookies and plastic spoons

Steps to setting up and preparing

1. Cut out circles from the felt

2. Cut out shapes of the moon in felt (half circle and crescent)

3. Lay out glue and glitter

Directions

Step 1: Talk about the moon and the different shapes the moon makes.

Step 2: Reinforce our discussion by creating the different shapes of the moon using the felt shapes provided.

Step 3: Using plastic spoons, scrape off the Oreo filling to create different shapes of the moon. Then, eat the moon cookie.

Did you and your students enjoy working on this assignment?

Yes! The MOMS club kids enjoyed making the moon out of felt and decorating it with glitter. They were also excited to eat their Oreo moon creations.

Our art is about....

The phases of the moon. The kids learned about the different phases. We focused on the ones most recognizable: full, new, half, and crescent.

First, we created the different phases of moons using felt, glue and glitter. Then, we created the different phases of the moons using Oreo cookies.
