season included six races and Aaron Stanfield nearly made it a clean sweep with arguably the most dominant showing in class history .
One of the sport ’ s rising stars , Stanfield won five of the six events , cruising to a championship , while also racing in Pro Stock and Top Dragster .
He overwhelmed the opposition in Factory Stock Showdown in his Janac Brothers COPO Camaro , clinching his first championship in the class early and then never letting up .
In Houston , he won in multiple classes , winning in Pro Stock and Factory Stock , securing the championship there with yet another remarkable weekend . After that magical weekend , Stanfield could barely put into words what he had accomplished .
“ I definitely can ’ t put this into words ,” Stanfield said in the winner ’ s circle . “ I tried to stay as calm as I could , but I knew my guys had my best interests in mind . I stayed focused , we did our job and we got it done . To be honest , this whole day has been crazy , just accomplishing huge , huge dreams . I haven ’ t had time to soak it all in , but what my dad has taught me is to clear your head and focus on what you need to do . That ’ s what I was able to do today .”
Just 25 years old , Stanfield has a big career ahead of him , but the future is already now , and he ’ s eager to be just as busy in 2021 , where he ’ ll try to match a 2020 he won ’ t soon forget .
“ As far as a year of drag racing , this was kind of a storybook year ,” Stanfield says . “ When we came to racing [ in July ], we started fairly well and it continued to roll . The goal is always to win a championship in anything we race , but my first goal was to get the first win . We definitely didn ’ t expect to have that kind of success .” – JOSH HACHAT DI
