Using the 330-feet ETs from the car’s other
successful passes, the 3.55 shut-off effort had
the potential to be a 3.530. While not necessarily
NHRA Heritage Series legal, conventional
conversion formulas show the numbers equate
to a quarter-mile performance of 5.28/282.
The Bairds have shown little interest in quarter-mile
racing over the past decade but have
clocked a 5.61 coasting across the finish line at
229 mph after a full-throttle eighth. Will this
be enough to draw them into an assault on the
1320 record?
recent CoViD 8 event at Orlando (FL) Speed-
World, Dodrill beat the vehicle into submission
with a magnificent…and uneventful…3.98 at
183.54 mph.
The speed on the run, and a faster 183.72
posted on an earlier effort, eclipsed the current
4X4 speed record for the QUARTER-mile,
currently held by Lavon Miller’s Cummins-powered
Dodge Ram at 181.69. Bobby holds the
quarter-mile ET record with a 6.86 at a mere
143 mph…coasting the last 660 feet after a
4.04 eighth-mile!

It may not be the fastest record set in 2020
but it will, most likely, go down as the scariest.
After years of trying to survive each pass in
the World’s Most Uncontrollable Doorslammer,
Bobby Dodrill finally tamed his 1987 Chevy
C-10 pickup enough to post a stupendous
3.98-second elapsed time…with four-wheeldrive!
Bobby, wife Lisa and the entire Dodrill clan
have battled the concept of putting four thousand
horsepower through each corner of their
pickup for more than a decade. Unfortunately,
the black pickup, aptly named “Miss Misery”,
has been against the idea of a straight, clean

Kebin Kinsley stole the three year-old AA/Fuel
Altered eighth-mile 3.49 ET record from fellow
Texan Howard Farris during the annual Pro
Modifieds Versus Fuel Altereds extravaganza
previously held at the now-shuttered North
Star Dragway near Dallas. Promoter Chris
Graves took the event to Gaylen Smith’s
Xtreme Raceway Park in Ferris (TX) where
Kinsley’s 3.44 in the “War Wagon” 1923 Ford
Model T gave the facility its first World Record.
The speed on the run, a strong 230.77 mph,
was still five mph short of the late Ron Fassl’s
fifteen year-old all-time mark.
