In a scene you can only see at the Pro Mod vs. Fuel Altered Showdown, Allan Middendorf (near
lane) and Rick Cate leave the starting line side-by-side in their worlds-apart race cars. Middendorf
in his nitro-burning “American Outlaw” AA/FA ended up No. 3 in the Fuel Altered field and No. 4
overall with his 3.692 at 217.08 mph. Cate’s screw-blown “Dangerous Toy” ‘67 Chevy Nova posted
a 4.024 at 180 mph to qualify sixth in the Pro Mod side and No. 13 overall. The duo met up again
in the opening round of eliminations, where Middendorf left before the tree activated.
