Many will answer, “not much” or “same old things.” Sayings like “It’s just another day” are all too common. What I notice is that much of life and the daily miracles of this world are too quickly for- gotten and pushed aside for the hurry and rush our lives demand of us. The reason is that our per- spective is off. I recently preached a sermon on perspective and the life-changing value of the right perspective. Two people have the same circum- stance. One is content while the other is upset. The only difference is their perspective. What you fo- cus on is what you magnify. If you focus too long on the problem, the solution will escape you. The value of right perspective will not only make you live happier but will also allow you to conquer the issues that you are going through and will go through in life. There was a man who constantly complained about not having any shoes – until he met a man with no feet. See what I’m getting at? We tell ourselves we don’t have enough or can’t live without something. Then we obsess over it so that everything else gets blocked out. This tunnel vision way of living has cost people their jobs, relationships, families, and even their lives. With the right perspective, we can look at a circumstance and instead of going to the wrong extreme side of thinking we can look at it from a right-side perspective. I was getting ready to travel to a race and on a pre-trip check I noticed a flat inner dual tire on my truck. I was a little bummed but then thought how grateful I was to find it before we started down the road. A quick and affordable driveway repair could have been a stuck rig on the highway with a huge bill, so I was grateful for finding it before we got on the road. But years ago, I would have complained and put the “poor me” attitude in place, saying things like, “This al- ways happens to me” or “I can’t believe this, ugh,” and so on. All that negative talk wouldn’t fix the tire, it would just sour my attitude and my trip. How many of you are taking the little bumps in the road and making them into mountains that seem insurmountable? How do you look at things? A man who would go into surgery was told he would lose his sight, but when he came to and was told miraculously he kept his sight and could see better, he immediately started looking at things differently. He now looks at birds, acorns, trees and most things we take for granted. He said each day has a gift of sight and he never wants to miss the ordinary things we take for granted daily. How many of us are rushing through life and never take the opportunity to just stop and smell the roses? Too busy? Then start getting a little less busy. Life was never meant to rush through, only to wish you had more time. On his death bed, a rich man’s only wish was for more time with his family. He spent so much time building his empire that he rarely had time for family. I’ve heard it said that no amount of money has ever bought a second of time. Don’t wait until it’s too late to wish you should have. Today is an amazing day with so many amazing moments in it. Moments that we just don’t seem to slow down enough to notice, and before you know it those moments are gone. As for me, I have decided to have a better perspective of each day and its amazing mo- ments and you can, too. The choice is yours to make.
