At the recent 13th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Norwalk (OH), the weather was anything but extraordinary. Yet three drivers improved their po- sitions in the DI Top Eight NHRA Pro Modified Speed chart at the race. It should come as no surprise all drove turbocharged entries. Steve Matusek became the second NHRA PM driver to officially break 260 mph, (two others have done it unofficially), wheeling his Aeromotive 2013 Mustang to a 260.41 blast with previous runs of 256 and 257. Alex Laughlin secured the bump of the Top 8 list at 259.16 after earlier 255, 257 and 257 slips. The trio are bound by a common thread. All are members of the Elite Racing Team which made the wholesale switch to turbocharged powerplants in 2019. Another trait shared by all three is the tuning expertise of Shane Tecklenburg whose wizardry has already pro- duced everything from the fastest automotive engine speed ever achieved on land to drag racing’s all-time record-holding eight, six and four-cylinder machines.
