DIALED IN DRAGWAY 42 exciting 32-car shootout for both Top E.T. and Modified, and upon request from the racers, a low-buck entry fee gamblers race was put in place. “Participation in the bracket program has risen sharply with the new format, advancing from a few hundred cars to 400-500 entries per bracket weekend,” says Gari. The mid-week test-and-tune session was also moved from Wednesday to Thursday with several classes of competition featured. Dragway 42 also hosts the Summit Racing Equipment Index Series, which features classes ranging from 5.50, 6.00 and 6.50 competing on the eighth mile, with an 11.50 class that’s contested on the quarter mile. In conjunction with the index series is a 660 program, comprised of outlaw dragsters and Pro Mods. In late May, the track hosted its first IHRA Summit Sportsman Spectacular event of 2019, which featured increased payouts and Ironman trophies for each class winner. Things got started on Friday night with gamblers races and a huge racer appreciation cookout. Fans on Saturday were treated to Fuel Altereds, old-school gassers and a wheel-standing Studebaker fire truck to go along with hundreds of great sportsman cars.
