Second-year Top Alcohol Dragster wheelman Will Smith pilots the Hirata family’s nitro-injected A/Fuel
dragster down the Norwalk quarter-mile strip during qualifying at the Cavalcade of Stars NHRA Division
3 race. Smith, the PDRA’s marketing director, partnered up with longtime friend and Midwest A/Fuel hero
Dave Hirata to field the Lowell, Indiana-based hot rod. Hirata painted each different body panel on the
car to pay tribute to nearly 20 iconic drivers and cars. Represented in the colorful tribute are “Big Daddy”
Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Scott Kalitta, Roland Leong, Darrell Gwynn, Kenny Hirata and more.
