Nostalgia Funny Car pilot Ron Ooms goes for a wild ride in his “Streakers Ride” ‘69
Camaro as he gets sideways on the burnout during Friday qualifying at the second stop on
promoter Chris Graves’ Funny Car Chaos seven-race tour. Safety officials rushed to extricate
the owner-operator truck driver from the car after it slid into the center guardrail just
before the Christmas tree, pinning Ooms’ leg. According to a GoFundMe page established
after the incident, Ooms broke his leg in five places and required extensive surgeries.
