CYLINDER RECORD AT 256 MPH!
the pass was made in Pro Open Eliminator,
which features virtually no rules. However, it
was universally accepted as the standard for a
“street bike platform” in drag racing.
It took almost four seasons, but a true “le-
gal” Pro Street machine has now eclipsed that
mark. At the recent 25th annual Xtreme Drag-
bike Association Spring Nationals at Budds
Creek, MD, North Carolinian Rodney Williford
pushed another turbo’d Suzuki to no less than
six runs over 220 mph with bests of 229.51 and
230.37 to make the Pro Street contingent now
slower than only the sport’s two nitro-burning
motorcycle classes.
In 2015, Gladstone clocked a 6.46 elapsed
time which remains the “no bar” mark to date,
but Suzuki pilot Jeremy Teasley hit a 6.49 at
the Maryland International Raceway XDA race.
Teasley also reset the Pro Street eighth-mile
ET record at 4.25 seconds. The Pro Street field
featured 18 riders over 200 mph and a 16-bike
bump spot of 6.999!

For more than a decade, the most active inter-
national battle in drag racing has been the war
between no less than seven different countries
in a skirmish for six-cylinder supremacy. The
speed record for the breed has fallen again
and, this time, the laurels head to New Zealand.
Rod Harvey, whose turbocharged 207ci
inline six-powered 2018 Toyota Camry held
the speed honors five years ago, unseated
Puerto Rico’s Victor Flores and the Zoian
Camry, which owned the mark of 255.34 mph
for over a year. Harvey, competing at the Nitro
Thunder event at Sydney Dragway in Australia,
unleashed a 5.77 at 255.82 mph and a 5.72
at 256.89 with both runs being anything but
straight.

Interestingly, the five hundredths of a sec-
ond difference between runs could be traced
directly to the 60-feet ETs of 1.020 and 0.976
seconds, respectively. Although Harvey missed
Flores’ current ET record of 5.66, the Kiwi is
certainly moving in on it.
