T
o look back and think about
the run that we’ve had, it’s pret-
ty special,” Cary Goforth admits.
“When it’s happening, you’re not
looking at it because you’re so fo-
cused on trying to get to that point.
So you don’t have time to reflect until it’s done.”
Goforth has had an unprecedented career
in Mountain Motor Pro Stock. With his latest
triumph – the 2017 PDRA Extreme Pro Stock
world championship – Goforth is now up to eight
championships across three organizations.
Even after that much success, it’s still hard
for the Oklahoma native to fully grasp his ac-
complishments.
“It’s very special to win eight,” he realizes. “It’s
very special to have a run like this. All I wanted
to do when I started this thing was to win a race.
And all I wanted to do after that was win another
race and hopefully enough to get in the position
to win a championship. And to win eight of them
is hard to describe. I never in my wildest dreams
thought I would get one, so to have eight – that’s
beyond icing on the cake.
“I’m proud of this because there have been a
lot of people from day one when we started this
journey that helped us get started, that helped us
with advice, that helped us on the team, that were
with us through the years. I think about those
people. I think about our families at home, and
all the people that have supported us.
“I told Dad the other day, with tears in my
eyes – I promise you that – I said, ‘I don’t want
to quit, Dad, but if we have to, I’ll never have to
look back and say, Boy, I wish we woulda done it
this way.’ We ran this deal professionally, we ran
it right, and we did everything we could do to put
ourselves in a position to win. It’s a good thing to
have a dad that thinks outside of the box. And be-
cause of Dad, there’s no regrets.” – LISA COLLIER
