He trailed points leader and two-time winner Eddie Rogers and Chris Duncan Race Cars driver Jonas Aleshire in third place. However, Haney capped off a season of late-round finishes with a decisive victory at the Fall Throw- down in T-Town, piloting his “Notori- ous” Camaro to a 3.77 at 200.68 mph to defeat fellow nitrous-assisted driv- er Jim Sackuvich in the final round. Haney’s championship battle in Radial vs. the World was fought primarily as a team owner over the course of the five-race season. He tapped his tuner, Brandon Pesz, to drive “Enigma” at the first four races, but a prior commitment prevented Pesz from finishing the season in the driver’s seat. Between the points Haney carried with him as the team owner and the points he earned for the first two round wins, he was crowned the Radial vs. the World season champion. “Right now, I’m honestly at a loss for words, and that doesn’t happen too often, as anyone who knows me could tell you,” Haney said at the time. “It was a truly amazing weekend, the best I’ve ever had since 007 when I got started in racing. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to top it, but it’s one that I’ll never, ever forget, that’s for sure.” – N AT E VA N WAG N DI E N DI DI DI DI DI DI DI DI DI FIA PRO STOCK BENGT LJUNGDAHL Ja n u a r y / F e b r u a r y 2 0 1 8 DragIllustrated.com | D r a g I l l u s t r a t e d | 105
