SUSAN ROUSH MCCLENAGHAN
Susan Roush McClenaghan recorded an .016
to qualify ninth in her AmeriGas propane-pow-
ered Mustang in Exedy Racing Clutch Modular
Muscle, and even though she lost in the semi-
final, she secured the class championship with
230 points more than her teammate and friend,
Donnie Bowles. Roush McClenaghan, who also
earned championships in NMCA MagnaFuel
Open Comp in 2011 and NMRA Exedy Racing
Clutch Modular Muscle in 2013 and 2014, won
at the events in Florida and Illinois.
“I got to spend a lot of time at the track when
I was little watching my dad (Jack Roush) race,
which was pretty cool, and I’m glad that I went
on to race in this series,” says Roush McClen-
aghan, whose daughter, Josie, is driving a Jr.
Dragster and is poised to follow in her mom’s
footsteps. “It’s very exciting, and we’ve made re-
ally good friends along the way, which is most
important. Also, Donnie (Bowles) and I have a
really good team, and we’re very proud of that
and the success we’ve been able to have in these
propane-powered cars.”
Roush Performance Super Stang put the
spotlight on Marvin Knack, who led qualifying
with a .009 reaction time in his Mustang, and
in advancing to a runner-up finish, he also ad-
vanced to his second consecutive class champi-
onship with 645 points more than Chris Parisi.
The Illinois-based driver won at the events in
Georgia and Illinois.
After qualifying in the fourth position with
a .004 in his Thunderbird in Aerospace Com-
ponents Open Comp, Dennis Corn lost in the
second round of eliminations, but still man-
aged to back up his 2016 class championship
with just 50 points more than Mel White. The
Michigan-based driver won at the events in
Georgia and Illinois.
Bryan Parker drove his Mustang to a 12.06
on his 12.00 index to qualify in the tenth po-
sition in Race Pages Ford Muscle, and even
though he lost in the first round of eliminations,
he captured the class championship with 690
points more than David Mormann. The Ohio-
based driver achieved a runner-up at the event
in Florida and wins at the events in Georgia,
Pennsylvania and Illinois. – M I K E G A L DI
