LIVING HISTORY Among the most enduring acts in shoebox-style doorslammer racing is this iconic 1957 Chevy that was built by Jerry Haas in 1988 for Knoxville, Tennessee’s Rob Vandergriff. “My best memory of this car was the day I first saw it!” recalls Vandergriff. The car quickly rose from the ranks of Top Sportsman when Pro Modified was launched in 1990, with Vandergriff eventually clocking a quarter-mile best of 6.85 at 205.95 mph. The car is beautifully preserved after nearly 30 years and still sees lots of action since falling into the hands of Sevierville, Tennessee-resident Roger Sellers and his driver, Tom Neubert. Together they tour the car extensively in the Southeast and beyond, and continue to be a huge hit with race fans everywhere.
